Description

This advanced course is designed for those PT's/OT's who seek a deeper understanding of movement dysfunctions encountered in the home health setting. Learn advanced rehab concepts in orthopedics and neurology including vestibular, biomechanical, proprioception and neuromuscular control during functional mobility. Develop a more trained eye and improve your clinical reasoning skills, allowing you to more accurately assess movement dysfunction as it pertains to losses in function. Specific functional exercises, case studies, and instruction on documentation are included. This is a must have course for home health therapists who desire to advance their therapeutic plan of care way beyond the preprinted protocols and boring bed and chair exercises, and who desire to improve functional outcomes in the limited time allowed by 3rd party payors.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------***COURSE OBJECTIVES***1. Know how to expand the therapy “toolbox” to include more functionally-appropriate therapeutic activities which take you beyond the preprinted protocols and boring bed and chair exercises 2. Develop a more in-depth understanding of orthopedic issues seen in the home health setting and know how to assess and treat successfully to improve functional outcomes 3. Know the neurological factors that affect functional mobility including proprioception, the vestibular system, and the function of the cerebellum and thalamus as they impact neuromuscular control 4. Be able to prescribe a program that demonstrates increased clinical reasoning skills and improves functional outcomes 5. Understand the efficacy of utilizing closed-chain activities to restore functional mobility sooner and in a more natural environment for the patient 6. Know what insurance companies and Medicare require in therapy documentation for reimbursement 7. Be able to set and write goals through the use of the acronym SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely) 8. Lila B, Jan. 4, 2015

I thought the course was very good from the standpoint of review for NDT, PNF, and neuroanatomy. It makes me want to go deeper into these areas for further study. The ideas for exercises were also very good as it went away from the cook book ideas of exercises and focussed on functional activities to promote strength, endurance, mobility, etc. Very good course.
